the values expectations clash
When your morals are confronted by mandates
Our two-day Cultural Dissonance → Moral Distress (CD-MD) Awareness Session explores some of the most challenging realities faced by professionals working in high-conflict fields, including Child Protection and Corrections.
Individuals are drawn to this work because they care deeply about helping others. Yet many find themselves navigating situations where their personal, cultural, and/or moral values don’t always align with workplace expectations (legislation, policy, procedure, etc).
What happens when deeply held beliefs and values come into conflict with the requirements of your role?
How do these conflicts affect your well-being, decision-making, and sense of professional purpose?
What can be done to navigate these challenges in a healthy and sustainable way?
This workshop begins with an exploration of the factors that influence quality of professional life, including Compassion Satisfaction, Burnout, Secondary Traumatic Stress, and Compassion Fatigue.
From here, participants examine the nature and causes of Cultural Dissonance and the impact it can have on individuals, teams, and organizations, including the effects of Moral Distress and Moral Injury.
We conclude our time together by strategizing what can be done at both the individual and employer level to help providers navigate this together, in a way that honours everyone’s inherent worth and the employer’s mandate.
